CFD Profile


Beijing Institute of Technology was the first polytechnic university
setup by Chinese Communist Party and has been on all the key university lists ever since the founding of new China. It is among the first to be admitted into the 211 and 985 Projects and has grown into a key comprehensive university featured by national defense, with a traditional focus on science and technology but developing into other areas such as management and humanities. Over the years, BIT has been devoted to lots of productive activities that enhance teachers teaching abilities.
In Feb. 2011, BIT CPC party decided to establish the Center for Faulty Development (CFD), which would innovatively optimize the past unorganized faculty training into the current professional, institutionalized and normalized faculty development system. In Oct. 2012, CFD was ranked as one of the 30 National Exemplary Centers for faculty development.

Missions and Functions

As a service-oriented academic organization, CFD works to disseminate educational philosophy, promote reforms in education and
teaching, build an amicable communication platform, heritage excellent teaching culture, guide teachers’ professional development and improve teaching quality through training, teaching quality assessment, research and exchange, and consultation. CFD is committed to playing an exemplary role in faculty development in regional higher education institutes.

Main Responsibilities

CFD is obliged to carry out a series of brand activities to realize its four big functions: faculty training, quality assessment, research and communication
, and consultation service by integrating relevant resources.

I   Faculty Training

CFD invites professionals to provide training and guidance on educational philosophy, teaching ability, academic skills and methods, academic and teacher's ethics to faculty members and teaching assistants. CFD has built a database for faculty development so as to provide professional service for faculty career planning and promote excellent development.

II   Quality Assessment


CFDcooperates with BIT Academic Affairs Department
to carry out teaching-quality assessment, get involved in implementation of Teacher Qualification System. CFD also conduct surveys regarding teaching effectiveness and teaching evaluation by employing scientific methods.

III   Teaching &Learning Research and Discussion 

CFD gets engaged in theoretical and practical researches on teaching and learning, and faculty development. It is eager to facilitate joint researches and share experiences among professional teachers with different discipline background. CFD is actively involved in building an internal communication platform for faculty and staff members of BIT.

IV   Consultation Service

CFD serves teachers and students in teaching and learning by ways of class-observing, real-class videotape and analysis, microteaching, and consultation. A data-collecting system has been built for educational researches, including faculty professional development, learning effectiveness of undergraduate and postgraduate students, etc. CFD provides peer reviews and teaching consultation for individual faculty member. It also works to offer policy advice and suggestions around the development of universities and the construction of faculty development centers.
